Club Founder

Walter KirchnerSM

An experienced soccer player and Coach, Walter Kirchner emigrated to Canada from Romania in 1970 and Founded the Woodstock Soccer League in 1976.

An elite level Referee from 1973 until retirement in 2010, Walter officiated amateur and professional leagues. His knowledge and technical skills keep him involved today and he still provides instructions to young officials learning the game.

In his honour, the annual Walter Kirchner tournament was established in 1991.

Inducted as a Builder of Sport and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame, Walter’s name is synonymous with soccer in our City and his dedication to soccer continues to benefit our community.

Recognized for his instrumental role, Walter has been given Honorary Lifetime Membership status of the Woodstock Soccer Club as voted on by the outgoing 2014-15 Executive Board at their final meeting.

Mission
The objective of the organization is to promote, develop and provide opportunity for any person in the city of Woodstock and surrounding area to play organized soccer at the recreational and competitive level and to assist all participants in reaching their potential through the development of players, coaches, referees and administrators.

History

From humble beginnings in 1976 with one team, to 2013 with more than 150 teams and 2,500 registered players, the Woodstock Soccer Club is one of the fastest growing soccer organizations in Southwestern Ontario and is run by volunteers elected to the Executive Board.
